Bruce’s Story
Bruce Hale became an author and entrepreneur in 1989 in the single weirdest week of his life (so far).  He was working for the phone company, in the kind of job that sucks the living soul from your body and spits it out onto the floor.

In that same week, he won three awards for his corporate newsletter, got a raise, and discovered he only had six weeks to enjoy it.  Yes, Bruce was downsized.  At the same time, he was helping run a Hawaiian gift company he'd started on the side, and he self-published his first picture book for children.

The choice was clear: Find another corporate job, or follow the dream of being an author.  Bruce took the leap of faith.  Today, he's published over 20 books, both through his own publishing company and through major U.S. publishers like Harcourt and Harpercollins.

Popular Speaker

Bruce has also become an in-demand speaker, encouraging audiences throughout North America to embrace their passion, take creative risks, and follow their own dreams.  He has given keynotes and workshops to groups across the U.S. and Canada, including the Surrey International Writers Conference and the prestigious Maui Writers Conference.

A cum laude graduate of UCLA (Economics degree), and a Fulbright Scholar (in Storytelling), Bruce combines a background in the arts with solid business and communications skills.  His talks blend humor, warmth, and concrete action steps that help people achieve their goals.

Bruce's book, THE MALTED FALCON, was a finalist for the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Allan Poe award.  He received a Little d Award for Humor Writing for his book, MURDER, MY TWEET.  Altogether, the Chet Gecko Mysteries series has sold over half a million books.

Performer

As a storyteller, Bruce has appeared at Hawaii's Talk Story Festival, the L.A. Times Festival of Books, and with Honolulu Theatre for Youth.

Currently, Bruce sings with a Santa Barbara-based jazz group called VocalPoint, and with a latin jazz combo, Mezcal Martini.  An experienced actor, he has appeared in numerous stage productions and in an independent movie, "The Ride," where he portrays a surfer's manager.

Bruce and his wife live in Santa Barbara, California.  When not working, he loves to travel, hike, bike, and occasionally ride the waves.
